Multi Sports Course Update

News

Posted Sep 08, 2014

After the great success of the Multi Sports Inclusion Course during the first week of summer, we were excited to get the second course up and running on the 26th-28th August. Just under 30 children attended last week bringing the total over the two courses to over 50 children. Allan Minns, one of the lead coaches, said We provide a wide range of activities for these children over the 3 day course. During this week we worked on Football, Basketball, Cricket and organised an Olympics competition for all the children to compete in. Seeing these disabled children attend our Multi sports courses and enjoying them as much as they do is an inspiration, as a coach it gives me a real boost to see them return each time with smiles on their faces.” In February this year we were deeply saddened to hear of the premature death of Dave Turner who was one of the most valued part-time coaches in our Community Trust for many years. One of the wishes of Dave’s family was to set up a memorial fund in memory of Dave, who always expressed a keen wish to work with children with disabilities sometime in the future. We were lucky enough to have his wife and son, Trish and James Turner alongside Jack Savage’s Mum, Tanya Savage, attend the presentation to help on the final day. Jack sadly passed away in a tragic car accident last year, he was familiar with Football in the Community and had grown up attending our courses since a young age. Trish, James and Tanya helped hand out medals and goody bags for all of the children who attended the fun week. Trust Manager Clive Maguire said It was a great summer for our FITC Trust and the presentation on the last course was such a special occasion. We were very honoured to have our special guests attend and I was delighted to announce to the children and parents that due to the Dave Turner Memorial Fund, we are now able to deliver more courses like these on a regular basis. These courses are vital in order to give families a respite period during the school holidays, with the parents and carers knowing their children are in a safe environment where they can all have a great time. I would also like to say a big thank you to Aiming High who have supported the two courses which we delivered this summer. We are looking to run our next 3 day Multi Sports course in October 2014 from the 28th-30th. For more informations on our courses or how to donate to the Dave Turner Fund please contact Clive Maguire on clive@stfc-fitc.co.uk or 01793 421303. Alternatively you can post the completed form with a cheque to STFC FITC, County Ground, County Road. Swindon. SN1 2ED.
