Multi-Sports Courses

[gallery ids=“5209,5210”] The STFC FITC Trust were delighted at the success of the multi sports course which we delivered in the first week of the summer holidays and are really looking forward to delivering the next one on the 26th, 27th and 28th August. The courses have both been supported by the organisation Aiming High who cater for families with children with severe educational needs and profound physical disabilities by offering respite opportunities. The objective is to offer these youngsters the chance to engage in sporting opportunities with their peers in a safe and enjoyable environment. We have been very fortunate to be able to deliver these courses for the last three years but, due to the restraints on finances, we have only been able to deliver two courses over a 12-month period. In February this year we were deeply saddened to hear of the premature death of Dave Turner who was one of our most valued part-time coaches in our Community Trust for many years. One of the wishes of Dave’s family was to set up a memorial fund in memory of Dave who always expressed a keen wish to work with children with disabilities sometime in the future. The memorial fund has been set up to enable our FITC trust to deliver more courses during the half term period and enable parents and siblings of young children with special needs to have some respite during these periods. At the next course, we will be delighted to have Trish Turner, Dave’s widow, as our guest of honour to present all the children with their goody bags and memento medal to take away with them after the three day course. In addition to the above, we are delighted to be supporting a charity football match on Sunday 24th August in memory of Jack Savage, who was tragically killed last year in a road traffic accident. Jack attended our Football Development Courses for many years, which we know he thoroughly enjoyed with his friends and peers from the Wanborough area. Steve and Tanya, Jack’s parents, have requested that all proceeds raised at the charity match go towards our Football in the Community Disability Programme which will, again, enable us to continue delivering courses to these young children.
